This crocheted beanie features a beautiful braid-like pattern in horizontal rows and a playful pompom on top. Close-fitted and perfect for skiing, it is sure to keep you toasty warm! Made from 100% organic wool aran yarn from the New Lanark wool mill, located just between Glasgow and Edinborough, this is one of five colors that I bought in person last summer when I visited Scotland for the first time.
New Lanark is a special place, a small 18th-century village set in a sublime Scottish landscape on the River Clyde. Now a World Heritage site, it is where the philanthropist Robert Owen built a model industrial community based on his Utopian ideals. The stoic cotton mill buildings, the spacious and well-designed workers' housing, and the dignified educational institute and school still testify to Owen's humanism.
All of the yarn produced at New Lanark is spun of high quality, spun on original 19th century machinery which is powered by renewable energy generated on-site by water-powered turbine, to keep environmental impact to a minimum. It was such an experience to watch it being spun and to make hats that continue the story of this incredible place.
